Top 15 Darkest Casting Secrets Of The 1960s Batman TV Show!
As popular as Batman is today, before the Batman series premiered on ABC in 1966, the comic book was not in a great place. Marvel had been introducing one culturally-relevant superhero after another, pulling the normal DC crowd towards itself. Though Superman still enjoyed some popularity, primarily due to the 1950s series Adventures of Superman, Batman was slowly trickling into oblivion.
The 1960s Batman series, which stars Adam West as Bruce Wayne/Batman and Burt Ward as Dicky Grayson/Robin, played a key role in reviving the Batman series. The 120-episode series also popularized the four iconic Batman villains: Catwoman, Penguin, Joker and Riddler. While the other three villains had made a significant number of appearances in the comic books, Riddler appeared only thrice in the books and the credit for his popularity goes entirely to this 1960s Batman TV series.
Even if we forget the impact that the series had on the revival of the character as well as the many Batman movies that have been made since, Batman, in itself, was a fun show to watch. It was a series that both the kids as well the parents could watch together and enjoy. The acting was excellent, the writing was always clever, and the production design was exemplary for the time.
